"We encourage children to develop a curiosity of the world that surrounds them by introducing new cultures into their lives. The study of French will provide children with the opportunity to practice resilience as they learn new ways to become confident and effective communicators, exploring what it means to be a tolerant and understanding global citizen."
SEND
Teachers set high expectations for every pupil and plan lessons to be inclusive of all abilities. Beginning to learn a new language in Key Stage 2 is a great ability leveller, and SEND pupils often find this a big confidence boost. Much of what wedo in language lessons naturally supports the learning of SEND pupils, for example using images to support learning of new vocabulary. All pupils have accessible Knowledge Notes in their books, which contain all the key vocabulary fora unit and can be referred to, if and when needed. The structure of the French curriculum enables teachers to drip feed small chunks of learning at a time, which are regularly revisited and revised. Teaching assistants often provide support for pupils with an EHCP and teachers liaise with the SEND team for additional support and guidance when required.
